INCREASING THE NUMBER OF TRAINED NURSING GRADUATES WHO ARE BETTER PREPARED FOR REAL-WORLD SCENARIOS
Sherry Lesar School of Nursing at Montana Tech aims to instill aspiring nurses with confidence and expertise, especially for students in rural communities with limited resources, by integrating advanced simulation practices.
Problem
Due to resource deficiency and scarce training opportunities from being in a rural community, Sherry Lesar School of Nursing’s single-room simulation setup lacked realism and adequate training facilities, limiting the effectiveness of nursing education.
Solution
Sherry Lesar School of Nursing expanded its facilities to a 5,000-square-foot simulation center which includes multiple simulation and debriefing rooms, a telehealth room, and high-fidelity manikins like Elevate Healthcare’s, Lucina.
Outcome
The new simulation center allows students to engage in more complex and varied scenarios without increasing clinical hours. As a result, nursing students can feel more confident and better prepared for real-world scenarios.
